Oversight Hearing on Passenger Vehicle Roof Strength

The hearing will consider the biomechanics of what occurs during a rollover, the relationship between vehicle roof strength and occupant injury risk, and the history and efficacy of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA’s) roof strength standard in improving vehicle safety. The hearing also will review the January 30, 2008, Supplemental Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (SNPRM). The agency’s deadline for issuing the final rule is July 1, 2008, with a legally permissible extension if necessary. Senator Pryor will preside.
