Chairman Rockefeller Applauds National Train Day Resolution

May 7, 2009

Marking 140 years of connecting travelers from coast to coast, the U.S. Senate recognizes National Train Day and celebrated the importance of train travel throughout the country. Chairman Rockefeller co-sponsored a bipartisan resolution that supports the goals and ideals of National Train Day.

“As Chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee, I am a big believer in the role that our nation’s train systems can play in jump-starting our economy and reducing America’s dependence on automobiles. We can address our country’s transportation challenges head-on by laying the foundation for an improved, efficient, high speed rail system.  I applaud this effort to recognize our national rail and encourage states and cities all across the country to continue developing high-speed rail in their communities, offering travelers more choices while helping our environment and stimulating our economy.”
