Chairman Rockefeller Alarmed by Magnitude of Cyber Attacks

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator John D. (Jay) Rockefeller IV, Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, sent letters to 11 different federal departments and agencies asking for information regarding their cybersecurity preparedness and the effectiveness of their incident response capability.
Chairman Rockefeller and Senator Snowe recently introduced bipartisan landmark cybersecurity legislation (S. 773, the Cybersecurity Act of 2009). These letters come following a recent cyber attack on key federal department and agency websites.
The following agencies were sent letters of inquiry:
National Railroad Passenger Corporation (AMTRAK)
Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC)
Department of Homeland Security (DHS)
Department of Commerce (DOC)
Department of Transportation (DOT)
Federal Communications Commission (FCC)
Federal Trade Commission (FTC)
National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)
National Science Foundation (NSF)
National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB)
Federal Maritime Commission (FMC)
