WASHINGTON, D.C.— Senator John D. (Jay) Rockefeller IV, Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, issued a subpoena to Vertrue, Inc. today following the company’s failure to provide relevant internal documents to the Committee.  The subpoena requires Vertrue to produce documents that were explicitly requested by the Committee in May, including communications Vertrue had with its business partners and credit card companies about these unauthorized charges, as well as internal discussions regarding the large volume of consumers who complain about the unauthorized charges on their credit card bills.  This marks the first time Chairman Rockefeller has used the subpoena power under the new rules of the Committee.  Under Senate rules, all documents provided to the Committee through subpoena are treated as confidential.
