September 25, 2009

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Senator John D. (Jay) Rockefeller IV, Chairman of the U.S. Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee issued the following statement regarding Commerce Secretary Gary Locke’s efforts to energize entrepreneurship by creating the Office of Innovation and Entrepreneurship and the National Advisory Council on Innovation and Entrepreneurship. This aggressive plan to harness the Commerce Department’s resources will help more American entrepreneurs realize their vision of new business development, innovation and growth.

“New business development is the backbone of economic stability in this country and it is imperative that we give entrepreneurs the opportunities they need to continue to be successful,” said Chairman Rockefeller.  “The creation of these two offices will concentrate the department’s efforts on small-business job creation and will stimulate the economy.”
