“I commend President Obama for strengthening and clarifying his vision for NASA. Over the past year, he and members of his administration have been asking the tough questions about what NASA’s future should be. As Chairman of the Senate Committee which has oversight responsibilities over NASA, I’ve been asking these tough questions, too.

“For me, one thing is clear: science-based innovation drives economic growth and helps America compete in the global economy. Past exploration has greatly contributed to America’s economic strength and competitiveness. I am pleased the president’s plan retains its focus on innovation, research and technology development - the drivers of our economy.

“I know there are many strong ideas about how this investment and innovation should be applied. I will study each plan carefully. I am committed to working with my colleagues in the Senate and with the administration to get these answers right.”
