Hutchison: NASA Legislation Embraced by Appropriations Committee Presents Unified Senate Position on Space
July 22, 2010
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas),
Ranking Member on the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee,
said the approval of the Commerce, Science, Justice Appropriations legislation
by the Senate Appropriations Committee today presents a unified Senate position
on NASA and the future of America’s human spaceflight programs.
“I am very pleased to see the full Senate Appropriations
Committee embrace our bipartisan NASA bill approved last week by the Commerce
Committee. Our compromise legislation would preserve our workforce, our
creativity, and the national commitment to sending humans to space,” said
Senator Hutchison. “Today’s action by
Senate appropriators results in a unified Senate position on the future of NASA
and America’s human spaceflight programs. I will continue to work with my
colleagues in the Senate to pass this important legislation, which provides a
strong balance between investment in new technology and the continued evolution
of the commercial market and a robust mission for NASA.”
