Rockefeller Celebrates Astronauts' Legacy at Congressional Gold Medal Ceremony

nasaWASHINGTON, D.C.—Chairman John D. (Jay) Rockefeller IV issued the following statement today congratulating former NASA astronauts John Glenn, Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, and Buzz Aldrin who are to be awarded the Congressional Gold Medal: 

“It is a great honor to recognize the accomplishments of such remarkable men.  These astronauts walked into the unknown and fueled America’s quest to advance scientific discovery.  Today, we celebrate the achievements of John Glenn, Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, and Buzz Aldrin—four astronauts whose landmark missions made history,” Rockefeller said.  "I congratulate these individuals on their incredible accomplishments and contributions to NASA.  Their efforts have inspired countless others to pursue human space exploration, setting the stage for a remarkable future for NASA."

A special screening of the ceremony, starting at 11:00 a.m. today in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda, can be viewed on the Commerce Committee’s website here.  Award-winning singer-songwriter Norah Jones will be giving a special performance during the ceremony.
