June 29, 2012

JDR Head ShotWASHINGTON, D.C.— Chairman John D. (Jay) Rockefeller IV today issued the following statement on Senate passage of the surface transportation bill.

“As a conferee and Chairman of the Committee responsible for ensuring the safety of all motorists, I’m pleased that we were able to reach consensus on this landmark surface transportation bill,” said Rockefeller. “This long-term extension will provide our economy with a much-needed boost and give the construction industry greater certainty. This bill includes many of the provisions from the Senate reauthorization that will make America’s surface transportation infrastructure safer and more efficient. At the same time, we really should have taken this opportunity to strengthen our passenger vehicle protections.”
