WASHINGTON, D.C.— Chairman John D. (Jay) Rockefeller IV today released a staff memorandum summarizing the feedback on cybersecurity he received from America’s largest businesses.  The feedback was provided in response to his letters in September 2012 to the Chief Executive Officers of Fortune 500 companies. 

“I wrote to Fortune 500 CEOs about cybersecurity last September to better understand the views of our country’s largest businesses.  The responses I received were both thoughtful and constructive.  Companies understand that the cyber threats we face are real and they understand that the federal government must play an important role in the nation’s cybersecurity moving forward.  The companies’ responses will be a great resource as we refine much-needed cybersecurity legislation to improve and deepen the collaboration between our government and private sector.”

Rockefeller wrote the CEOs of Fortune 500 companies in September 2012 to solicit their views on cybersecurity as Congress continues its focus on strengthening the nation’s cybersecurity.  He recently introduced S. 21, the Cybersecurity and American Cyber Competitiveness Act of 2013, cosponsored by Senators Tom Carper (D-DE), Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Carl Levin (D-MI), Barbara Mikulski (D-MD), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), and Chris Coons (D-DE), which details the priorities that will comprise comprehensive cybersecurity legislation in the Senate this year.
