Cantwell Statement on Anniversary of Ethiopian Airlines Crash
March 10, 2020
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA), Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, released the following statement regarding the one year anniversary of the fatal crash of Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302, a Boeing 737 MAX aircraft:
“This is a somber day, as we remember the 157 lives lost a year ago on Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 that crashed shortly after takeoff from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Our hearts are with their families and loved ones on this extremely difficult day, as well as with the families who lost loved ones in the October 2018 crash of Lion Air Flight 610.
I am grateful to the families of Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 who have been tireless in their push for accountability. Congress must work together to ensure the United States maintains the highest standard of aviation safety in the world. We have a duty to improve our nation’s aviation safety program and regulatory oversight, and ensure that tragedies like this never happen again.”
