April 11, 2024
This morning, U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell, Chair of the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, and U.S. Representative Cathy McMorris Rodgers, Chair of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, joined CNBC’s Squawk Box to discuss their historic comprehensive privacy deal that was unveiled over the weekend. The bipartisan American Privacy Rights Act gives Americans fundamental, enforceable data privacy rights, puts people in control of their own data, establishes robust enforcement to hold violators accountable and sets a clear and strong national privacy standard across states.
“We're trying to establish a strong, strong national standard for how you collect, use and transfer people's most personal sensitive information. We believe there should be a strong national federal standard on this. We are an entire country with internet commerce across the United States. We want the information age to continue to unfold. But we certainly want consumers to be protected on their most sensitive personal information from being used without their consent,” Chair Cantwell said during the interview.
