Senator Hutchison: Too Early to Call for DTV Delay
January 8, 2009
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas), Ranking Member of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, today said it was too early to call for a delay to the digital television (DTV) transition scheduled for next month. Senator Hutchison stated that increased focus was needed to fix the anticipated coupon shortage before the transition date of February 17, 2009.
“I am concerned about moving the date of the upcoming digital television transition,” said Senator Hutchison. “We need to focus on a solution to the coupon shortage. Shifting the date this close to the transition, without a sound plan to share information about the new transition date, will likely result in significant confusion. I share concerns about the availability of coupons and pledge my support in working with my colleagues to find a solution to this problem.”
