WASHINGTON, D.C.—The U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation today approved several surface transportation safety bills at a Committee markup. The bills now await consideration by the full Senate.

The following bill and nominations were approved:

• S. 1449, the Motor Vehicle and Highway Safety Improvement Act of 2011 (Mariah’s Act) 

• S. 1950, the Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety Enhancement Act of 2011

• S. 1952, the Hazardous Materials Transportation Safety Improvement Act of 2011 

• S. 1953, the Research and Innovative Technology Administration Reauthorization Act of 2011

• Nominations for Promotion in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Commissioned Corp
