Rockefeller Calls Upon House Speaker to End FAA Shutdown

Says Republican Attempts at Political Extortion Must End

August 3, 2011

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Chairman John D. (Jay) Rockefeller IV issued the following statement today:

"By refusing to agree to a clean FAA extension, Republicans continue to make it clear that this shutdown is not about fiscal responsibility but about furthering their political agenda at the expense of the American people. Today, more than 70,000 construction workers are still sidelined, 4,000 FAA employees are still furloughed without pay, and $200 million a week in ticket tax revenue is being lost because of GOP stubbornness. The uncertainty the American people are facing today is unacceptable. We must stand up to this Republcan attempt at political extortion."
