Senators Call on Senate Majority Leader Reid to Allow Hearings, Debate on Cybersecurity Legislation
Ranking Members of relevant committees fear government overreach and call for regular order

Washington, DC – U.S. Sens. Kay Bailey Hutchison, John McCain, Chuck Grassley, Saxby Chambliss, Lisa Murkowski, Jeff Sessions, and Mike Enzi today sent a letter calling on Majority Leader Reid to reconsider his plan to bypass regular order on the Lieberman/Collins cybersecurity bill.
“If we are serious about enacting effective legislation into law, we must provide all Members of the Senate the opportunity to become adequately informed by regular order. This is not the kind of legislation that can result in a carefully balanced solution unless the full process is afforded,” the Senators said.
Authors of the letter are U.S. Sens. Kay Bailey Hutchison, Ranking Member of the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, John McCain, Ranking Member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, Chuck Grassley, Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Saxby Chambliss, Vice Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, Lisa Murkowski, Ranking Member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, Jeff Sessions, Ranking Member of the Senate Budget Committee, Senator Mike Enzi, Ranking Member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee.
