Thune Statement on Expansion of Takata Airbag Recalls

May 19, 2015

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee Chairman John Thune (R-S.D.) issued the following joint statement on the U.S. Department of Transportation’s announcement to expand the Takata airbag recalls.

“NHTSA has correctly called this one of the largest and most complex recalls in history, which underscores the seriousness of this situation. Air bags are intended to save lives. This recall is unprecedented, and it is important that Takata, regulators, and the public move without delay to remedy outstanding safety issues. The Commerce Committee will continue its efforts to get to the root cause of this problem to ensure this doesn’t happen again.”

In the coming days, consumers can check their vehicle’s Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) at http://www.SaferCar.gov/RecallsSpotlight to see if it is covered by the expanded recall.
