Wicker Statement on FTC Notice on Privacy
August 11, 2022
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., ranking member of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, today released the following statement on the American Data Privacy and Protection Act (ADPPA) and the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) announcement of an Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on data privacy:
“To get real consumer data privacy protections, Congress must act. FTC commissioners have acknowledged that legislation, not regulation, is the preferred way to achieve these protections. I hope today’s action by the FTC helps underscore the urgency for the House to bring the American Data Privacy and Protection Act to the floor and for the Senate Commerce Committee to advance it through committee. The time to move on ADPPA is now.”
Wicker is a cosponsor of the American Data Privacy and Protection Act with U.S. Representatives Frank Pallone, Jr. D-N.J., and Cathy McMorris Rodgers, R-Wash., Chairman and Ranking Member of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.
