April 2, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C.-- U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.), Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, released the following statement after Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg testified before the committee:

"The new Boeing CEO said he has been spending his time listening to employees, customers, affected crash victim families, the FAA, aviation experts and transportation inspectors. It shows.

"Mr. Ortberg delivered a welcome change in tone from the Boeing Company on the issue of safety.

"He committed to a mandatory Safety Management System and safety trend analysis of customer data to improve production quality. Both are significant changes from company's past positions. He also committed to an FAA oversight process steeped in root cause analysis.

"Mr. Ortberg also outlined how he saw the need for the U.S. to catch next generation manufacturing opportunities like thermoplastics, and his commitment to live in Seattle — the heart of the company’s manufacturing base — to continue to hear directly from workers.”
