Committee Investigation Suggests Leading Technology Company Violated Huawei-related Rule
U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., ranking member of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, today released a report following a committee investigation that finds Seagate Technology likely in violation of the Foreign Direct Product Rule implemented by the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) at the Department of Commerce, which restricts Huawei’s access to sensitive technology. The investigation found that Seagate flouted the regulation designed to protect U.S. national security by making unlawful transactions with Huawei for as long as one year, allowing the company to gain significant profits as it monopolized the market.

In early February 2021, Ranking Member Roger Wicker of the U.S. Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee launched an investigation into alleged misconduct in the Investigations and Threat Management Service (ITMS) at the Department of Commerce. Wicker Releases Committee’s FAA Investigation Report
U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, today released the Committee’s investigation report on the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This investigation began in April of 2019, weeks after the second of two tragic crashes of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, when Committee staff began receiving information from whistleblowers disclosing numerous concerns related to aviation safety.
Fact Sheet: Southwest Airlines Skyline Aircraft Concerns
During the period of 2013 through 2017, Southwest Airlines acquired a total of 88 airplanes, referred to by Southwest Airlines as the Skyline Aircraft. These aircraft were previously operated by 16 various foreign air carriers. Southwest Airlines used multiple contractors to conduct the required review of maintenance records associated with these aircraft. After contractors conducted this review, Southwest Airlines, through its Delegated Airworthiness Representatives (DAR) authority granted by the FAA, issued these 88 aircraft Airworthiness Certificates, allowing them to enter revenue service.

On April 2, 2019, Senator Roger Wicker, chairman of the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, launched an investigation of any potential connection between inadequate training and certification of Aviation Safety Inspectors (ASI) who may have participated in the evaluation of the Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft. The investigation began as a result of information obtained from numerous whistleblowers. To launch the investigation, Chairman Wicker wrote to then-Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Acting Administrator Daniel Elwell to request additional information and documents.

Wicker Releases Investigation Report on CPSC Data Breaches
U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, has delivered an investigation report to Acting Chairman Robert Adler of the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The committee’s investigation centered on the CPSC’s violation of section 6(b) of the Consumer Product Safety Act (CPSA) and subsequent data breaches. As part of its oversight responsibility, the committee has been investigating the violations since April and released the final report this week.
